We AWS Heroes are a group of people from all over the world and so the yearly AWS re:Invent is not only the biggest and most important conference but also a possibility to come together, chat, socialize and having a lot of fun. This website is a result of exactly this!

At the AWS re:Invent 2024 Keynote, Dr. Werner Vogels, VP & CTO of Amazon.com, made a strong (and especially for us Heroes very flattering) statement to the audience: "Listen to the AWS Heroes!" and he ended with his powerful message "Now go build!"

Going out of the keynote hall we asked ourselves: "Is the domain listen-to-the-heroes.com available?" – and what was meant to be a joke was the nucleus of a project that took us (thanks to AWS capabilities) only 30 hours to launch.

First we registered several domains around the "Listen to the Heroes" statement and then went back to our (packed) re:Invent schedule. At dinner we continued joking around about building a website where people can listen to the Heroes and so some of us skipped the infamous re:Play party to follow Werner's advice and started building.

A few hours (and drinks) later we had a very early MVP ready but decided to "sleep over it" before launching and so the work continued the next day for a couple more hours. Overall, this project took us just a few hours to build, we launched just 30 hours (while being at re:Invent) after the initial idea and we can assure you Amazon Q Developer was not harmed while building this page. 🤣
